Hinterland A.M.
Provence / Côte d'Azur

The area Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur is situated in the southeast of France and extends from the estuary of the Rhône up to the Italian border and from the Alpes up to the Mediterranean Sea. It consists of the Départements Bouche-du-Rhône, Var, Vaucluse, Alpes-Maritimes, Alpes de Haute-Provence and Hautes-Alpes. Our agency Côte d’Azur Domicile has its centre of activities in the two Départements Alpes-Maritimes and Var with the capitals Nizza and Toulon.
The Provence Côte d’Azur is a region of contrasts: mountains and wild canyons in the hinterland of the Département Alpes-Maritimes, vast pine and oak tree woods in the Département Var, picturesque islands and palmtree-lined beach promenades at the Côte d’Azur and a great number of picturesque medieval villages. And everywhere those wonderfully fragrant fields of lavender and the yellow sparkling mimosas.
The Provence coast extends from Les-Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer to Menton and has an impressive length of 600 km. Beautiful beaches change with picturesque rocky bays: the ideal place for sun adorers and water sports fans.

Mediterranean climate prevails in the Provence Côte d’Azur area. With approx. 300 days of sunshine per year the region is one of the sunniest in Europe. Bathing weather can be expected from May to October. In spring and autumn the temperature is comfortably moderate. Winter visitors can count on mild temperatures at the coast and on ideal winter sports conditions in the hinterland.

Everywhere you will find architectural witnesses of a stirring history. The beauty of the Provence Côte d’Azur area has overwhelmed many artists. Picasso spent unforgettable days at the seaside of Juan-les-Pins, and van Gogh created his most important paintings in Arles.
The markets of the Provence are lavish of colours and fragrances. Heaps of spices, fresh, cracking vegetables and baskets full of olives are on display. The excellent reputation of the Provencal kitchen with its basic ingredients olive oil and herbs of Provence is more than justified. The wonderful wines of the region are perfect to accompany a good meal such as lamb chops with ratatouille, grilled loup de mer or bouillabaisse, the famous fish specialty of the region.

Besides the peaceful life in the rural areas of the hinterland and in the vacation areas like St.-Tropez, there also exists the busy urban life in Nizza, Cannes or Toulon, and a certain commercial dynamics, like in the French Silicon Valley around Sophia-Antipolis, and even a stronghold of the financial world, the principality of Monaco.
We will be pleased to help you gain a foothold in this wonderful region. Should you have any further questions, you might find the answer under „Questions asked frequently“.
