The fortified village St.-Paul is situated on top of a rock opposite the mighty mountain chain Les Baous in a landscape with Tuscan appeal dominated by cypresses and orange trees on rolling hills. It is one of the most beautiful villages of France.
St.-Paul was „discovered“ in the 20s by painters like Chaim Soutine, Paul Signac, Amadeao Modigliani and Pierre Bonnard. The meeting point of this group was the inn Auberge de la Colombe d’Or, which thus got famous and stayed so up to now. Especially after the establishment of the Maeght foundation in 1964, St.-Paul developed to a centre of arts important far beyond the boundaries of France and to a centre of tourisme. The Maeght foundation owns a wonderful collection of temporary art presented in beautiful museum grounds, which, with its terraces, gardens and water basins, are perfectly adapted to the landscape. A visit to this place is a wonderful experience. From the fortified walls of the village you can enjoy a beautiful view over the surrounding landscape stretching out to the sea.
If you wish to enjoy the charm of St.-Paul, you have to stroll through its lanes with the arched passages and the old houses with carved doorways and old weapons.
A special sight is the collegiate church La Conversion-de-St.-Paul dating back to the 12th/13th century.
St.-Paul has beautiful residential places, which are much in demand. You may find a great variety of villas in our website (click „home“, „residential real-estate objects“, and then the area „Hinterland Alpes-Maritimes“)
We will be pleased to help you gain a foothold in this wonderful region. Should you have any questions in this connection, you might find the answer under „Questions asked frequently“ (click „home“). Or simply give us a call or send an e-mail. We will be glad to help you.
